Flood Damaged Waste

Flooding is a recurring issue in the UK, and it’s something we know will continue—likely worsening over time. Autumn and winter are officially classed as storm seasons, during which the UK typically experiences around seven named storms. However, the 2023/2024 storm season (September to February) set a new record with 12 storms.

The most recent, Storm Bert, struck earlier this month, bringing persistent winds and heavy rain that battered much of the country—particularly the West—disrupting homes, roads, and transport networks.

As expected, insurance and restoration businesses are particularly busy during these periods. At Site Solutions, we’ve partnered with several of these companies across the UK to manage the swift and compliant disposal of flood-damaged waste—often a more complex task than it seems.

One such case involved a customer whose two business premises in London were severely affected by storm-related flooding. Both buildings, which housed solicitor offices, experienced basement flooding, destroying a significant volume of archived paperwork.

Given the sensitive nature of these archives, it was clear that a bespoke solution was required to ensure compliance with the Data Protection Act while minimizing disruption to the businesses.

At Site Solutions, providing tailored waste management solutions is at the core of what we do. We understand the importance of sustainable, secure waste disposal and have the expertise and connections to deliver seamless services.

For this particular project, our team conducted an initial site assessment before dispatching a crew to clear the flooded basements and handle the damaged archives. Due to their confidential nature, the waste was securely transported to a specialized facility for destruction, and a certificate of destruction was issued to the customer.

While we can’t change the weather, Site Solutions provides peace of mind to our customers by ensuring that when disaster strikes, we are ready to handle waste disposal efficiently and effectively.
