At Site Solutions, we’ve been steadily expanding our services into the organic waste sector. From food waste to fibrous digestate, we’re delivering nationwide projects that manage a wide range of organic materials and by-products from treatment processes.

Whether it’s through our sister company Compost UK, or by collaborating with our trusted national network of third-party treatment and restoration sites, we make sure waste is handled responsibly and efficiently from start to finish.

What is organic waste?

Bulk organic waste typically includes large volumes of biodegradable materials such as food scraps, garden trimmings, and agricultural residues. It’s not your everyday household rubbish.

  • Water treatment plants
  • Wastewater facilities
  • Anaerobic digestion (AD) sites
  • Composting operations

What organic waste can we handle?

We aim to find sustainable routes for as many waste types as possible. We’re particularly experienced in managing materials that fall under the following EWC codes:

  • 20 02 01 – Biodegradable waste from gardens and parks
  • 20 01 08 – Biodegradable kitchen and canteen waste
  • 19 05 03 – Compost from mechanical treatment of waste
  • 19 06 04 – Digestate from anaerobic treatment of waste
  • 19 12 12 – Other wastes (including mixtures of materials) from mechanical treatment
  • 19 05 99 – Other wastes from aerobic treatment
  • 19 08 02 – Sludges from biological treatment
  • 20 03 03 – Street-cleaning residues
  • 19 09 02 – Sludges from water clarification
  • 19 08 05 – Sludges from treatment of urban waste water

How do we manage organic waste?

Each type of organic material needs a tailored solution and that’s where we come in. We work closely with producers, hauliers, landowners, and facilities to develop fully compliant, efficient waste management routes. Our goal? Ensure that nothing reusable is wasted.

Here’s how it works:

  • Initial Contact
Get in touch to discuss your waste type, volume, and location.
  • Proposal & Planning
We use our national network to develop a tailored proposal. This may include a site visit to assess logistics and, where necessary, collect samples for analysis.
  • Scheduling & Coordination
Once agreed, a dedicated account manager will coordinate the entire process including organising transport to provide a seamless, end-to-end solution.
  • Compliance & Reporting
All required documentation is provided, and clients can request access to our secure online portal.

Why does organic waste management matter?

It’s about more than just meeting legal requirements. Responsible management of organic waste contributes to:

  • Soil health and regeneration
  • Carbon footprint reduction
  • Landfill diversion
  • Supporting a circular, resource-efficient economy

With the right handling, what’s often considered “waste” becomes a resource with real value whether through land restoration, composting, or energy recovery.
